The Quartet recently toured Australia, the USA and Japan, where it recorded a concert of Janácek and Haas for NHK television.

The Quartet has recorded three award-winning CDs, receiving great acclaim from audiences and critics alike. The first recording of Janácek Quartet No.2 and Haas Quartet No.2 was voted CD of the Week by BBC Radio 3 and Chamber Choice by BBC Music Magazine. The Quartet’s second disc completed their recordings of the string quartet works by Haas and Janácek. The Gramophone described the CD as ‘musically important’. In 2010, the Quartet released their third disc: Prokofiev’s Quartets Nos. 1 & 2, which was described as “an instant classic”.

Based in Prague, the Quartet studied with some of the masters of the quartet world including members of Quartetto Italiano, Quattuor Mosaïques, Borodin Quartet and Amadeus Quartet, as well as with Walter Levin and Milan Skampa.

The prestigious Gramophone magazine's 'Recording of the Year' award has been won by the Pavel Haas Quartet's recording of the Dvořák string quartets Op 106 and Op 96. Gramophone's team of 47 critics chose this as the most outstanding of the 1,000-plus albums released in 2010 and confirms the Pavel Haas Quartet as one of Europe's up-and-coming quartets.

'The world’s most exciting string quartet? Well, they suit the tagline better than most…Their tone is large, quasi-orchestral. They take risks; often they play fast. Above all, they play with passion.' The Times, January 2010
