Olivier Ensemble
The Olivier Ensemble was founded in
2003 by four leading performers who came together initially to learn
Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, but furthermore
to create a flexible group with a rich, varied repertoire. With this
particular combination of instruments, many different permutations of duo and trio are possible: the group
thrives on this variety, striving to present interesting programmes to concert
audiences, often including works for duo, trio and quartet within a
recital.
All members of the
group play in other highly-esteemed ensembles outside The Olivier Ensemble,
and before forming the Ensemble their
musical paths crossed frequently. Because of
their busy schedules, Olivier Ensemble is not a group that plays together every
week, but rather for a few periods of intense work each year, which the players
relish. Their music-making is underpinned by their warm friendship and draws on
the wealth of collective experience they have of playing chamber music at the
very highest level.
